Water Works – Passing on the baton

In the heart of Bolton, amidst the bustling city streets, a remarkable journey unfolded over nearly 12 years.

Marie Oxtoby, Chair of Bolton Neuro Voices, sought a Physio Partner to capitalise on the newly opened hydrotherapy pool at the brand-new Jason Kenny Centre in Bolton. Marie was acutely aware of the limited provisions for persons living with a neurological condition to exercise safely and support their own health and wellbeing.

Marie met with Susan Pattison, a passionate (and not shy of a challenge!) physiotherapist at SP Therapy Services. It was the genesis of something extraordinary – the birth of the hydrotherapy program at Bolton Neuro Voices. With boundless determination and unwavering commitment, Marie and Susan pioneered this endeavour.

Susan ensured the hydrotherapy program utilised the unique properties of water to provide a safe environment for persons of varying ability to challenge and improve their balance, a problem shared by almost all neurological conditions.

Through seasons of progress and moments of setback, Susan stood steadfast, adapting, and innovating to meet the evolving needs of her participants. Her bond with Bolton Neuro Voices grew stronger with each passing year, a testament to the shared commitment to a cause that touched lives in profound ways.

Over the years, the hydrotherapy pool echoed with laughter, perseverance, and stories of triumph. The ripple effect of the combination of Marie’s commitment, Susan’s physiotherapy knowledge and the dedication of the volunteer team reached far beyond the pool’s edge as families witnessed transformations. They saw their loved ones regain a sense of independence, rediscover their inner resilience, and embrace life with newfound vigour.

“We are immensely proud of the accomplishments we’ve achieved with Bolton Neuro Voices over the past 12 years,” said Susan Pattison, SP Therapy Services. “The dedication and resilience of both organisations have made a significant impact on the lives of so many. We are confident that the legacy of our partnership will continue to thrive, and we look forward to seeing Bolton Neuro Voices achieve even greater heights in the future.”

As we reflect on this remarkable 12-year journey, the time has come to pass the baton on. It is with great pride and gratitude that we wish BNV and all their participants continued success in their mission to empower individuals with neurological conditions. We are proud to announce that the new Physio Partner will be the Physiotherapy Faculty of Bolton University. Ensuring the commitment to improving the lives of those living with neurological conditions remains at the heart of our community and the lessons learned continue into the next generation of physiotherapists.

It is a succession plan that Marie and Susan are extremely proud of and we are confident that this new partnership will flourish and bring about a wave of transformative developments for those whose lives are touched by the collective efforts of these dedicated organizations.
