  • Our Approach to Neurological Physiotherapy

We offer individualised, goal-focused physiotherapy, designed to:

    • Maximise independence and daily function
    • Improve strength, mobility, and coordination
    • Manage spasticity, stiffness, or involuntary movements
    • Prevent secondary complications such as falls or contractures
    • Manage fatigue and improve energy conservation
    • Support safe transfers, use of mobility aids, and home adaptations

Our aim is always to help clients maintain or regain control over daily activities, mobility, and community participation — no matter how complex their condition may be.

  • What are neurological health conditions?

Some neurological conditions are life threatening, with many severely affecting an individual’s quality of life. Others can have a significant impact on everyday life and on participation in activities. Neurological conditions can be grouped into four types –

    • Sudden Onset (stroke, traumatic brain or spinal injury)
    • Intermittent (epilepsy, migraine, cavernoma)
    • Progressive (Parkinson’s disease, dementia)
    • Stable with Changing Needs (Tourette syndrome, narcolepsy)
  • How does physiotherapy help people with neurological conditions?
Neurological physiotherapy involves the treatment of people with movement and function disorders that have originated from problems within the body’s nervous and neuromuscular system. Our neurological physiotherapists aim to improve strength, coordination and balance.
  • Supporting Clients at Home

    Home-based physiotherapy allows us to:

    • Address real-life challenges directly within the home or care setting
    • Tailor exercises and functional tasks to the client’s own environment
    • Reduce the strain of travel, which can be difficult for those with fatigue or mobility limitations
    • Provide flexible, consistent, and highly personalised therapy sessions

By working in the client’s own environment, we ensure that therapy remains relevant, practical, and directly supportive of their daily needs.

  • Who We Work With

    We regularly support:

    • Adults and young people living with rare, progressive, or complex neurological conditions
    • Families and carers seeking community-based physiotherapy
    • Case Managers managing complex rehab and litigation cases
    • Solicitors coordinating legal claims and rehabilitation packages
    • NHS and Social Care teams requiring additional community support

We provide clear clinical reports, SMART goals, regular progress updates, and transparent costings to support case management, funding, and legal processes.

About SP Therapy Services

Reviews

Marie Oxtoby

I am the Chair/Co-ordinator of Bolton Neuro Voices, a small local charity. I first contacted SP Therapy Services in 2012 when I was looking for a neuro physiotherapist to help us pilot a new Hydrotheraoy Course for people with long-term neurological conditions. Since then Susan Pattison and her staff have helped us to deliver ten courses to a total of more than 200 people and to facilitate the progress of many on to ongoing Continuation Programmes. Her expertise and willingness to listen and respond to our needs and those of our very varied participants is hugely appreciated and our partnership has gone from strength to strength. I unreservedly recommend this practice.

Andy provided a very thorough and considered physiotherapy assessment of a client with complex needs. His report was to a very high standard and underpinned all immediate and long term therapy needs. Thank you!
