Neurological Physiotherapist Susan Pattison, founder of SP Therapy Services, has been recognised for her exceptional leadership in neurological rehabilitation across North England. With decades of experience supporting people recovering from acquired brain injury, stroke, and multiple sclerosis, Susan continues to transform community-based physiotherapy.
SP Therapy Services continues to lead the way in community neurological physiotherapy across the North of England. This month, founder Susan Pattison received recognition for her outstanding contribution to neurological rehabilitation. She has supported people living with acquired brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS), and other neurological conditions for over 30 years.
Last Thursday, the SP Therapy Services team attended the Headway Salford, Trafford & North Manchester annual event—a celebration of strength, collaboration, and achievement.
One of the highlights of the evening came when Susan Pattison, specialist neurological physiotherapist and founder of SP Therapy Services, received a Certificate of Appreciation. The award celebrated her long-term commitment to Headway Salford and her leadership in the wider neurological physiotherapy community.
Nearly 20 Years of Leadership: The NWABI Network
In 2005, Susan Pattison founded the Northwest Acquired Brain Injury Network (NWABI) to bring together professionals, families, and people living with brain injuries. Nearly 20 years later, the network continues to grow and inspire.
Since its launch, NWABI has raised more than £12,000, including £6,000 donated directly to Headway Salford. But the impact goes far beyond fundraising. The network builds collaboration, inclusion, and empowerment across the ABI community.
Headway members take active roles in events, share their experiences, and help shape discussions. This model bridges the gap between professionals and people with lived experience, creating a more inclusive and connected brain injury community.
Movement That Matters: #SPTSC2C
Alongside NWABI, Neurological Physiotherapist Susan Pattison and her team lead the annual Coast2Coast Challenge (#SPTSC2C). This virtual movement and fundraising campaign unites the neurological rehabilitation community across the North.
The challenge promotes functional movement and engagement. The SP Therapy Services team joins Headway groups like Salford to deliver fun, accessible exercise sessions tailored to individual needs.
Funds raised through the challenge are shared between Headway Salford, Stockport, Huddersfield, and Rotherham—supporting hundreds of people across Greater Manchester and Yorkshire.

Trailblazing Home-Based Rehabilitation
Neurological Physiotherapist Susan Pattison has transformed how neurological physiotherapy is delivered in communities across the North of England. Her approach focuses on independence and real-life function rather than clinic-based treatment.
Through SP Therapy Services, Susan leads a team of specialist neurological physiotherapists who visit clients in their homes, schools, and local communities. This flexible, goal-driven model empowers people recovering from brain injury, stroke, or MS to rebuild confidence, movement, and daily skills.
Driving National Change in Neurorehabilitation
Beyond her regional leadership, Susan Pattison has influenced national policy in neurological rehabilitation.
In 2019, she co-led a successful motion at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy’s Annual Representative Conference. The motion endorsed the Time for Change report from the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Acquired Brain Injury (APPG), supported by UKABIF.
The campaign called for better access to neurological rehabilitation and highlighted the vital role of physiotherapy throughout the recovery pathway. It also proposed a national training package to help physiotherapists deliver the Rehabilitation Prescription effectively.
Celebrating a True Neurological Rehabilitation Champion
At SP Therapy Services, we’re proud to see Neurological Physiotherapist Susan Pattison recognised in such a meaningful way. Her work continues to shape both the profession and the lives of those she supports.
“When you bring the right people together, with the right intent—change happens. That’s why we do what we do,” says Susan.
Congratulations, Sue—your recognition from Headway Salford is so well deserved.
