Celebrating the Success of Our 2024 Virtual Coast to Coast Challenge!

We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible success of this year’s Virtual Coast to Coast challenge! Over the course of 5 weeks, our community came together to inspire movement, foster inclusivity, and raise vital funds for local Headway charities.

Our vision was simple: to encourage everyone, including those with brain injuries, to get active and take part in a collective virtual journey across the UK. Together, we achieved something truly remarkable — covering a vast number of steps, enough to conquer the Coast2Coast journey multiple times over. Alongside this physical triumph, we also raised a total of £916.00 for our local Headway groups: Headway Rotherham, Huddersfield, Salford, and Stockport.

The Heart of the Challenge: Inclusivity & Movement for All

The vision behind the #SPTSC2C challenge is rooted in inspiring our community to move more, but also to make fundraising more accessible and inclusive for people with brain injuries. We wanted this event to be about participation, no matter the pace or activity. Whether walking, wheeling, hula hooping, or taking part in group exercises, every step counted!

Inspiring Patients Who Went the Extra Mile

Throughout the month, many of our patients showed incredible commitment and dedication, embodying the spirit of #SPTSC2C with every step.

OS, under the guidance of his physiotherapist Rob Butterworth based in Blackburn, reached a personal milestone with a 90-minute badminton session. This impressive feat was a testament to his progress and resilience.

In Holmfirth, Jane Raleigh worked with her patient RA, who joined weekly multisport sessions at a local leisure centre. These sessions challenged her balance, coordination, and strength, empowering her to engage fully in community sports.

Similarly, Jacqueline Boyle in Stalybridge supported EC, who made significant strides in her mobility, marking her first hairdresser visit in a long time and increasing her standing exercises at home, not to mention, her confidence!

In Bury, physiotherapist Susan Pattison celebrated her patient IC’s participation, as IC used his wheelchair to take active steps in the challenge, even venturing outdoors to bring more movement into his routine.

Meanwhile, Barnsley-based physio Jayne Hallford guided ES in reintroducing physical movement that encouraged her to move more consistently, fostering both physical and mental well-being.

Incredible Contributions Across the NorthWest

Headway Salford

Physiotherapist Susan Pattison, who works in the Bury area, led an inspiring group exercise session with Headway Salford, hosting Paralympic-inspired activities that encouraged movement and enjoyment. The session fostered empowerment and togetherness, encouraging participants to stay active and committed throughout the month.

Headway Stockport

Physiotherapist Jacqueline Boyle, who works in the Stalybridge area, facilitated an exercise session with Headway Stockport, encouraging consistent engagement and empowering individuals to move more as part of the Coast2Coast journey. This collaboration embodied the spirit of #SPTSC2C by making physical activity enjoyable, inclusive, and rewarding.

Remarkable Contributions Across Yorkshire

Headway Huddersfield

Holmfirth-based physiotherapist Jane Raleigh led Headway Huddersfield’s participants, guiding them through September’s challenge with a group session. Through shared movement, participants were empowered to set personal goals, and their contributions highlighted the core values of #SPTSC2C — inclusivity, encouragement, and progress.

Headway Rotherham & Bridge Enablement Hub

Barnsley-based physiotherapist Jayne Hallford collaborated with Headway Rotherham and the Bridge Enablement Hub in energetic group exercise sessions. The collective spirit and enthusiasm in these sessions inspired members to embrace movement and engage fully in the Coast2Coast challenge, underscoring how impactful group activities can be in fostering positive health habits.

Looking Forward

We are incredibly proud of every individual who took part in the 2024 Coast to Coast challenge. From patients and physiotherapists to community members, everyone made a difference. Together, we not only covered a huge distance in steps but also raised awareness for the importance of physical activity for brain injury survivors.

Looking ahead, we hope this challenge continues to inspire movement and make fundraising even more inclusive. Thank you to everyone who donated, participated, or cheered us on! Every step brought us closer to our goal of supporting our local Headway charities and creating a community of inclusivity and empowerment.

Let’s keep moving, together!
