Specialist Skills & Expertise
Rob has worked with individuals with a wide range of neurological conditions including, stroke, acquired brain injury and head injury, MS, Parkinson’s and Cerebral Palsy.
Rob has over 25 years experience as a sports coach; owning and running a centre specialising in Martial arts tuition since 2001. After qualifying as a Physiotherapist in 2009 he worked in education, spending 13 years teaching Health and Social care as a lecturer for UCLAN, and for the BTEC programme at St Marys College, preparing people for their own careers in Nursing and Physiotherapy.
Rob’s return to physiotherapy was carefully guided by SP Therapy Services, with consistent mentoring and support to make sure he is up to date on the latest techniques and principles of neurological rehabilitation, and to introduce him to the specific skills involved in the medicolegal aspects of the practice. He is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy & is registered to the Health & Care Professions Council.
Rob believes that the principles of sports coaching can be applied to people of all ability levels. The role of goal setting, programme design and providing motivation and support are vital to the success of any programme, regardless of the age or ability of the service user. All clients face similar challenges – whether they are an athlete training for a personal best, a new mother returning to fitness, or a brain injured patient who wants to be able to walk without help.
He believes in the power of an active and healthy lifestyle to create a foundation for the specialist activities of rehabilitation, and is skilled in the application of the models and theories used to promote healthy behaviours.
Rob has specialist skills in designing and delivering training and education programmes, with particular experience of working with support workers who may have had a long break from education. He recognises that Physiotherapy and rehabilitation is a team approach, and uses education to ensure the whole team understands the theory behind the programme to ensure optimal progress.
Rob lives in east Lancashire with his wife and two children. He is actively involved in martial arts, and enjoys running, kettlebell training and hiking.
