On the 3rd of October 2017, Susan Pattison (SP Therapy Services Director), Anna Ziemer (Clinical Champion for Balance) and  Franki Collinson (Clinical Champion for Cognition) took great pleasure in celebrating Older People’s Day with our friends from Age UK Jubilee Centre.

Older People’s Day

Celebration of Older People’s Day is an opportunity when we tighten links with our local community and promote our Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy professions.

It was the second year in the row we have visited the Jubilee Centre. We offer a Falls Risk Assessment and Fitness MOT to their “over 60” members.

We were welcomed by Andy Hazeldine and his very helpful team as we took over the Chatterbox Café. Despite it being a miserable day we had a great turn out and we assessed 20 club members in just a couple of hours. We were so busy testing and advising about Falls Prevention and how to keep fit through all stages of life that we had no chance to admire the great views over the lake, or even enjoy the café’s homemade specials!

We all thoroughly enjoyed the morning, meeting new people, sharing our skills and knowledge and telling people that Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy can work!

Between assessing and advising, Susan had an opportunity to trial a clinic Falls Assessment protocol to build a better-developed assessment tool for the future. Franki undertook a crash course on our “Functional MOT”, and Anna was busy putting even more people through their paces and sharing her Balance Champion expertise as to  how to live better when living longer.

The club members who took part in the assessment were very impressed with the professionalism shown by our 3 Therapists, as well as their skills to listen, observe, and possess a working knowledge of local activities and signposting.

The whole morning was a great promotion for our Practice but also an enjoyable learning experience for the SP Therapy Services Team. So, next year on the 1st of October we are going to take over the Jubilee Centre again, but maybe this time we will have the opportunity to try the pies and take a walk around the lido. Join us if you dare!
